LOGITECH MX MASTER 3

Design & Build Quality

Logitech has for the most part been dominating the market since the creation of the MX Master series many years back. When you think a professional yet ergonomic mouse, nothing comes to mind quicker than the MX Master mouse and this time, third time's the charm. With so many years of R&D, Logitech pretty much perfected the mouse. Let's dive straight into the design. From the top, we first see a similar shape to the previous generation MX Master 2S but now the front is a much curvier shape compared to the shape end on the top of the MX Master 2S. The left and right buttons are also as clicky and tactile with a new MagSpeed Electromagnetic scroll wheel. Remember we use to have a noisy ratchet scroll wheel on the MX Master 2S, now we have a near-silent experience whether you are using the pixel by pixel scrolling or the smooth scrolling. With its steel mechanism and build, you will feel confident that the scroll wheel is going to last you a long while. It is also said to be 90% faster and 87& more precise than the previous generation and I found it to be true to its claims having used the MX Master 2S. The scroll wheel itself is also a middle button. Moving on, there is a mode switch button that allows you to switch between standard or smooth scrolling. Now, onto the sides, there is a horizontal scroll wheel and two front and back buttons as well as a gesture button. At the bottom, there is an on/off switch, the DarkField sensor as well as a device switch button that allows you to remember up to 3 devices. Lastly, at the front, there is a USB Type-C port for recharging and wired use. On the side, you will see an LED indicator that will tell you the abttery life status and charging progress. The sides of the mouse have this ripple-like texture that doesn't really add to the user experience but I appreciate the flowing aesthetic that Logitech is trying to give off when you lay your eyes on the mouse.

Performance

Moving on to performance, the MX Master 3 is compatible with the Logitech Options app available for download on Mac, Windows, and Linux via Logitech's website. With the app, you can take full advantage and customize literally everything and anything you desire. There is a list of controls to choose from for every button and you can extend that to customise to the individual apps like browsers, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and many more. If you have a keyboard to match, in my case, an MX Keys, you can also enable DuoLink which unlocks yet another set of features with the press of an Fn button on the keyboard. Next, you can change the pointer and scrolling speed, the scroll direction, and smoothness as well as the thumbwheel speed and direction. Lastly, Flow is another great feature to have. With Flow, you can copy files across computers on similar or different OS by moving your mouse towards the side ends of your screen and it will jump automatically from one computer to the next. Now, you can also forget about bring a mousepad everywhere since Logitech mastered the DarkField sensor to have a maximum Dpi of 4000 so you can use the mouse anywhere and even on glass.

Connectivity & Portability

In terms of connectivity, the MX Master 3 supports the latest Bluetooth Low Energy and can be connected to various types of devices using various methods. From the standard Bluetooth connection to the USB Receiver to a wired option, you will find one user to your needs. For me personally, I use Bluetooth since I use it with my MacBook Pro 16 Inch that doesn't have a USB-A port and Bluetooth works seamlessly too. There is also a Mac version of the MX Master 3 that trades off the USB-A to USB-C cable and USB Receiver for a USB-C to USB-C cable. The battery life claimed t0 last around 70 days and I personally averaged around a month and a half of battery power for my use case. It takes 3 hours to fully charge the mouse from a dead battery to full via the USB-C port at the front.
