Design & Build Quality

So, I have owned the Apple Watch Series 6 for a few months now and I have to say it’s the best smartwatch I have ever use and yes, it is still the one the most powerful you can buy today. Starting off with the design, the Apple Watch Series 6 shares the same design aesthetics as previous-generation Apple Watches. The 44mm that I have here is bigger in screen real estate as compared to the 40mm version, I find that the 44mm is better for users with bigger wrist and it was a perfect fit for mine own use. Coming from a previous Fitbit user, the Apple Watch exceeds expectations in speed and almost every function it does. Moving on, always-on Retina LTPO OLED display as colour accurate as you expect, it can produce up to 1000 nits of brightness delivering the best true-to-life colours. Next, the speakers function decently well too. They aren't the loudest but the sound is crisp and not worth using for calls but it is still useful in a crunch. On the back. there are now the blood oxygen sensor and the electrical heart sensor that are used to measure your blood oxygen. Now, the blood oxygen feature conveniently measures the oxygen saturation of your blood, so they can better understand their overall fitness and wellness. Oxygen saturation, or SpO2, represents the percentage of oxygen being carried by red blood cells from the lungs to the rest of the body, and indicates how well this oxygenated blood is being delivered throughout the body. To compensate for natural variations in the skin and improve accuracy, the Blood Oxygen sensor employs four clusters of green, red, and infrared LEDs, along with the four photodiodes on the back crystal, to measure light reflected back from blood. Apple Watch then uses an advanced custom algorithm built into the Blood Oxygen app, which is designed to measure blood oxygen between 70% - 100%. The dial on the side of the Apple Watch is where you control most of the scrolling and selection for the apps. It can also take your ECG in 30 seconds. All your health data including sleep data will be visible in the Health app, and the you will be able to track trends over time to see how your data changes. Back to design, a new blue colour joins the silver, space grey, and gold aluminium case options, along with a (PRODUCT) RED Apple Watch with exclusive matching bright red bands. The stainless steel models are now available in graphite and an updated classic yellow gold colour. Apple Watch Edition is available in natural and space black titanium. However, if you are looking at the Nike edition, you can only choose from Space Grey and Silver aluminium. For the new bands, we are looking at 3 innovative styles for a tailored and comfortable fit without traditional clasps or buckles. The ultralight Solo Loop introduces a continuous and stretchable band design that comes in two materials: soft silicone and braided yarn. A special UV treatment process used on the soft silicone of the Solo Loop creates a smooth finish, while a precision-braiding machine interweaves the 16,000 polyester yarn filaments, made of 100% recycled material, with ultra-thin silicone threads, giving unique stretchability and a distinct look to the Braided Solo Loop. To ensure the best fit, a new sizing system offers nine available lengths for the Solo Loop styles. The new Leather Link wraps elegantly around the wrist, effortlessly attaching on the other side with flexible molded magnets.

Performance

Moving on to performance, the Apple Watch Series 6 uses a 64-bit dual-core processor based on A13 Bionic in iPhone 11, as well as an upgraded S6 SiP runs up to 20% faster, while maintaining the same all-day 18-hour battery life. There is the inclusion of the U1 chip and Ultra Wideband antennas enabling for short-range wireless location to support new experiences, such as next-generation digital car keys. Now, the watch features faster charging, completing a full charge in under 1.5 hours, and improved battery life for tracking certain workouts. An enhanced Always-On Retina display on Apple Watch Series 6 is up to 2.5 times brighter than Apple Watch Series 5 outdoors when the your wrist is down, making it much easier to see a watch face in bright sunlight. When their wrist is down, the user can also now access Notification Centre and Control Centre, tap on complications, and swipe to change faces without having to wake their watch screen. With an always-on altimeter, you can get real-time elevation all day long by using a new, more power-efficient barometric altimeter, along with GPS and nearby Wi-Fi networks. With watchOS 7, you can extensively personalise your watch with 7 new faces, including Stripes, Chronograph Pro, GMT, and Artist, while curating, discovering, and sharing new watch face configurations with others. New health and fitness features, including low-range VO2 Max, sleep tracking, automatic hand-washing detection, and new workout types, can help you understand your overall well-being. The Maps app now includes cycling directions while Siri offers language translation. One of the most awaited features is Family Setup in watchOS 7 extends Apple Watch to the entire family by allowing kids and older family members of the household who do not have an iPhone to benefit from the connectivity, safety, and fitness features of Apple Watch. Kids can take advantage of communication and personalisation capabilities, access Emergency SOS at any time, enjoy an Activity rings experience that has been optimised just for them, and utilise a new mode called School Time, which can help them stay focused and attentive while learning at home or in the classroom. WatchOS 7 also offers optimised features for older adults, starting with a simplified onboarding and configuration process, along with a refreshed X-Large face that shows the time and a rich complication at a glance.

Connectivity

In terms of connectivity, the  Apple Watch Series 6 supports the latest Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 6 and LTE. The battery life is claimed to be around 18 hours of use but with constant tracking of workouts will drain it quicker than it should last. There is a magnetic wireless charger to USB-A cable included in the box but no wall plug.

All in all, the Apple Watch Series 6 is a very health-centric product that bridges the gap between watch and a dedicated medical tracker. It has the sheer power of a phone along with the creativity of being accessorised with different bands and cases. It is the best smartwatch you can buy with Watch OS 7 as of yet but also the most expensive. Whether you are a fitness trainer creator or an average user, the 44mm Apple Watch Series 6 Nike Edition does not disappoint with its powerful CPU and GPU performance. The Nike Edition does only comes in both Silver and Space Grey aluminium finishes.
