V-MODA CROSSFADE 2 WIRELESS

Design & Construction

The V-Moda CrossFade 2 Wireless is the next iteration of the award-winning CrossFade Wireless together with the audio expertise of the legendary M100. The left earcup has the Micro-USB port for charging, while on the right earcup there is the (From  Back-Front): Vol- & Vol+ buttons and play/pause button. At the bottom, there is power switch for turning it on/off and Bluetooth pairing. Pairing via Bluetooth is simple and quick. The buttons feel rather cheap due to its squeaky sound when pressed. A Blue LED light up once in every few seconds during wireless usage. Both earcups has customisable shields and bear the V-Moda logo. The SteelFlex metal headband conforms to your head very well and do not stick out awkwardly. There is also vegan leather cushion under the headband which provide for a more comfortable experience. Its rather unfortunate to know that wearing fatigue will be eventually be felt after an hour plus of use due to its heavy-weight and slightly tight clamping force. The earcups pivot left and right and folds up for easy storage. Even though the hinges are made out of metal, V-Moda's Cliqfold ensures that the headphone can be stored in its most compact form. I have to say I am impressed with the case as well, it may seem bulky but it does it's job at keeping the accessories free of damage and scratches. For DJs, the are V-Ports which allow the airflow in the case so the headphones will not stink after a festival or gig.

Sound Quality

The 50mm High-Resolution Dual-Diaphragm headphone drivers have a clear sound signature. There is a AptX version of the headphone for clear audio transmission over Bluetooth. Based on user experience, the noise isolation very good, I could not much of my surroundings when there was no music on. The highs and mids are balanced and enjoyable. The highs do not sound too sharp and tinging. It also has a wide soundstage and instrument separation. The sound output is pure and rich in detail. You can really hear the details and high quality sound like those expensive in-ear monitors. Bass is a little too weak for my liking but that is probably to ensure that it does not bleed in to the mid-range frequencies. Call quality was okay, the caller could hear me on the other end and didn't know I was using the headphone mic to communicate.

Connectivity & Portability

The headphone operates both passively and wirelessly. From my test, it was surprising to know that the audio output of the headphones is slightly clearer in wired mode. V-Moda worked in a different way as other audio companies, they built the headphone as a wired headset first then, added Bluetooth for consumers' convenience. Indeed. The mic and controls work in wired mode via the supplied cable. The battery life peaks at a maximum of 14 hours. The package comes a Micro-USB cable, a gold plated 1/4" adapter, a cable with inline controls and mic, a hard carrying case as aforementioned together with a carabiner to clip the case to your backpack.

The Bottom Line

The V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless is a superior headphone housing 40mm High-Resolution drivers, durable build and great noise isolation. However, the battery life is quite short compared to the competition and the weight is on the heavier side at 310g. It is highly recommended for monitoring and DJing. A range of colours for the AptX version should be made available to fit users of different gender.
