SONY MDR-1AM2

Design & Construction

The Sony MDR-1AM2 is the update to the Sony MDR-1A released 2 years ago. Sporting virtually similar striking looks, Sony hasn't really updated the exterior feel of the headphone but have done a little to reduce its weight and boost its comfort. The headphone is very light-weight at 187g and will not cause discomfort to those who wear spectacles. The headphones also resist fingerprints smudges very well.

Sound Quality

The 40mm High-Resolution headphone drivers (aluminum-coated liquid crystal polymer (LCP) diaphragm) certainly live up to its name. They produce a super clear sound signature to provide for a very immersive experience. This makes the headphones great for all genres of music ranging from soothing jazz to bass-heavy EDM tracks. Highs and mids come off as balanced and bass is boosted which gives off a nice thump in your ear. Inherited from Sony's legacy high-end audiophile reference headphones, the MDR-1AM2 now features fibonacci-patterned grills to minimise the sound damping of high-resolution frequencies.

Connectivity & Portability

The headphone operates via a 4.4Φ balanced cable connection for the purest output. It also comes with a 1.2m 3.5mm cable for on-the-go smartphone compatibility. A soft carrying pouch is also included to protect the headphone from drops and scratches.
