Design & Construction

Finally, Sennheiser has their very own pair of truly wireless in-ear headphones. Though not being one of the first few companies to dabble in this very new market, they did a great job as a first attempt. But just how good is it? Let's dive straight in to the design. Once again, in typical momentum in-ears fashion, Sennheiser stuck to the classic chromed finish on the face of the earbuds themselves and a full black plastic finish for the sides,  The earbuds also come with different size silicone ear tips and a set of Comply Memory Foam ear tips to ensure a tight seal and secure fit. All controls for music playback and calls are controlled via both touchpads on the earbuds themselves. For simplicity sake, I listed the full control scheme for your easy reference. Throughout long listening sessions, I never experienced any wearing fatigue or pain in my ear canal. It takes about 1.5 hours to charge both the case with the earbuds. Notably, the earbuds are IPX4 splash-resistant. The earbuds also do a great job at resisting fingerprints smudges. Moving on to the case, it is rounded and fits right into my palm of my hands. A USB Type-C port can be found on the rear of the case. The hinges holding the cover and body of the case is strong and is likely to survive a couple of accidental drops. The earbuds do magnetically click into place when they are docked into the case. Throughout my use, I dropped the earbuds couple of times and no signs of damages and scratches can be found on the exterior of the finish and also no compromises on the sound quality itself.

Sound Quality

Sennheiser managed to fit a 7mm speaker driver right into the Momentum True Wireless. They produce a very balanced sound signature. Sennheiser also allows users to tune the sound settings to their liking via the Sennheiser Smart Control App available on the App Store and Play Store. In the app, you will find an equalizer which allows users to tune the sound signature to their liking. Based on user experience, the noise isolation is top-notch, I could not hear much of my surroundings even when I had no music on and when I am using it at a low volume level. Fiddling with the in-app equalizer, you will hear a boosted bass or treble depending on which side of the equalizer you raise. High are crisp and mids have clarity and bass is boosted for the impressive oomph. The soundstage was not bad with distinct left and right channels being heard clearly. This makes the headphones great for all genres of music ranging from soothing jazz to fast-paced EDM tracks. There was no sound leakage even at full volume and no high-volume distortion Call quality was fantastic, the caller managed to hear me clearly on the other end. The best part is that sound is coming out from both the earbuds so I could take calls much more naturally.

Connectivity & Portability

The earbuds support the AptX Low-Latency, AptX, AAC and SBC codecs together with Bluetooth Version 5.0. In the app, you can configure the smart pause feature which allows the user to stop music from playing when one earbud is removed from either ear. There is also an ambient sound hear-through feature which allows users to listen to both environmental noise and music for safety or striking up a quick conversation with someone without removing the earbuds from their ears. The earbuds also automatically power on/off when docked or taken out from the case. The battery life peaks at 4 hours per use and 3 additional charges from the case; a total of 12 hours. The package also comes with a USB Type-C cable for charging. The headphones' connectivity to the app is perfect as I never experienced it being unable to detect my in-ear headphones. If you are planning to watch videos or movies with these, I am glad to report that they do not suffer from any latency. Should you also wish to only use one earbud at one time, the right one is available only since it is the master earbud.

The Bottom Line

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless have proven themselves in a market of saturated sub-par true wireless in-ear headphone. With a long battery life of 12 hours and customisable sound settings, premium build and slick design, it makes it worthy of its rather high price. Sadly, Sennheiser does only offer these in a single colour only.
