CREATIVE MUVO 2

WE RATE IT!

9.5/10

Design & Construction

Back in 2015, Creative released a small portable speaker, the Creative Muvo Mini. Two years later in 2017, Creative released its older brother, the Creative Muvo 2. The front of the speaker bears the Creative logo with dual speaker drivers and a passive radiator under it positioned to fire sound in front. On the left side, there is a strap loop for you to attach one of your own to allow the speaker to be carried around easily. On the top, you will find: (From Left-Right): On/Off Switch, Bluetooth Pairing button, the LED indicator, the Mode button, the Mic, Vol - button, Vol+ button, Play/Pause button and another LED indicator. The Mode button allows users to cycle through the different modes of playback like Bluetooth, Audio-In, USB & Micro SD, while the light flashes different colours to indicate the mode the speaker is in. At the rear and under the flap, there is a Micro-USB port for charging and an aux port for wired usage. The speaker is IP66 Certified, so it is dust-proof and water-proof. The speaker grilles do not flex when I pressed on them and hence offer users a peace of mind when using them outdoors.

Sound Quality

The sound reproduction of the Muvo 2 is decent. At 40% volume, it can fill a medium-sized room. The bass response is one of the best I have heard from the speaker this size. It may sometimes overshadow the other frequencies and causes the sound output to be not as pure. On the bright side, mids have clarity and highs sound bright andforward but are not too sharp to listen to. The soundstage isn't too wide and the instrument separation isn't too good either but that is typical of many portable Bluetooth speakers. Fortanately, users have the ability to double up with another Mujvo 2 for better stereo separation and louder volume. It is great to also know that the sound quality do not drop in quality even as the speaker goes low on battery.

Connectivity & Portability

The speaker specifications include Bluetooth Ver 4.2 and support for the basic SBC codec. Of course, it also offers an aux port for wired usage. Its battery life peaks at 10 hrs; rather short compared to the competition. Using Creative's Sound Blaster Connect App, which is available for download on the App Store and Play Store, was a breeze. The app recognises the speaker 100% of the time and allows users to view and select songs from the MicroSD card, navigate through music, and conveniently switch between different audio sources. The package also includes a MIcro-USB cable for recharging the speaker.
