Design & Construction

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT is the wireless option to the all-time popular ATH-M50X. The headband and earcups bear the Audio-Technica logo. The headphones have rather thick and snug cushions which are meant for providing a comfortable experience. The headband is very well-padded and will not cause discomfort to those who wear spectacles. On the headband, there is also a thick cushioned headrest which does provide some comfort. The earcups swivel 180° for easy, one-ear monitoring. The headphones also do fold upwards for portability. The exterior of the earcups has a black matte-like finish and the whole headphone is made of plastic. The earcups do also pivot left and right and fold up for easy storage. The top of the headband and left earcup bears the 'AUDIO-TECHNICA' logo. on the left earcup, you will find all the controls. There is (From Front to Back), the power and Bluetooth pairing switch, the Micro-USB port, 3.5mm Input, the volume buttons and the multi-function button. The multi-function button allows for play/pause and picking up/ending calls with a single press and a double to skip forward and a triple press to skip backwards. There is also a touchpad on the left earcup to allow users to bring up Google Assistant or Siri when they want to use voice commands.

Sound Quality

The 45mm headphone drivers do provide a very neutral experience just the legendary sound signature of the original ATH-M50x. It has a clear audio signature that is tuned flat for accurate reproduction of sound. This is much needed especially for producers and DJs to carefully craft and mix their audio so that it will sound as pure as the artist intended. Based on user experience, the noise isolation is good, I could not hear much of my surroundings when there was no music on. Highs, mids and lows are balanced and not emphasized. Call quality was fantastic as the caller could hear me clearly on the other end and didn't know I was using the headphone mic to communicate.

Connectivity & Portability

The headphone operates both passively and wirelessly. The mic and playback controls work in wired mode as there is a mic and a one-button control on the cable itself. In wireless mode, AptX, AAC & SBC codecs are supported together with Bluetooth 5.0. Listening via the Micro-USB cable is not possible. The battery life peaks at an impressive 40 hours in Bluetooth mode. There is app compatibility with this model via the Audio-Technica | Connect App available for download on the App & Play Store. The app is pretty basic without any equaliser and features. It only allows users to change their preferred audio codecs and check the battery life. The headphones fold up to fit in an included fabric carry bag.
